Benefits Administration, Senior Specialist

As a Benefits Administration, Senior Specialist, you will provide subject matter expertise and support for WESCO | Anixter’s US and Canadian group plans: health, pharmacy, dental, vision, life insurance, spending accounts and other voluntary benefits. This role will maintain regulatory compliance to prevent the risk of financial penalties. Individuals at this level will have a working knowledge and experience in benefit programs and can exercise independent judgment in the performance of their job duties.

Responsibilities: analytics and reporting, data support, plan administration and vendor management. Work closely with our outsourced benefits administration vendors, as well as, third party benefit partners.

  • Provide Tier 3 support of benefits related questions; using existing support tools, like ServiceNow®
  • Proactively maintain subject matter expertise on benefits including eligibility, qualifying life events, and related regulatory requirements
  • Research and resolve questions or make determinations on more difficult and complex health and welfare employee issues; partner with vendors as needed
  • Review and implement legislative changes to the benefit programs
  • Complete timely and accurate benefit administration including detailed documentation and required communications for compliance notices, reports and non-discrimination testing including Form 5500, ACA, etc.
  • Participate in establishing and maintaining plan administrative guidelines
  • Provide audit support
  • Pay Invoices
  • Maintain plan administration in accordance with ERISA, HIPAA and COBRA
  • Coordinate Annual Enrollment with benefits administration partners
  • Work closely with payroll teams to ensure timeliness and accuracy of paycheck deductions
  • Partner with the Benefits Center of Excellence to ensure that plan administration is considered when implementing changes
  • Complete Medicare Request for Employment Information forms; Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) forms; Coordinate all Life Insurance claims for employees & dependents with vendor partner
  • Conducts research of benefits programs for potential acquisitions, and provides detailed comparative financial and design analysis


  • 4 to 5 years’ experience of benefit administration experience
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Affordable Care Act (ACA) experience preferred with an emphasis on 1095C reporting
  • Strong appreciation for customer service and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Possess a high-energy level, sense of urgency, decisiveness and ability to work well in an ambiguous environment
  • Exceptional detail orientation with a high degree of accuracy
  • Project management skills
