WESCO/Anixter is seeking an Tax Manager for Transaction Taxes for North America. This position would be to ensure that the organization meets its tax responsibilities. The position resides in Glenview, Illinois at Worldwide Headquarters of Anixter (a WESCO Company). The individual will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the following areas:
- Tax Research - Researches a variety of issues across a broad range of customers including transactional and project exemptions for both the US and Canada and provides guidance to internal and external customers for North America and other regions of the world.
- Training - Trains new and existing tax staff on transaction taxes with emphasis on Sales& Use, Privilege, Provincial Sales Tax, Harmonized Sales Tax, and Good & Services Taxes.
- Audit Defense - Interfaces with State, Local, and Provincial auditors; Works with Director of Tax on sales and use tax strategy and tactics; Researches audit issues and responds to external auditor inquiries.
- Develop and maintain critical relationships with other departments within the organization
- Tax Administration and Tax Compliance
Job Requirements
This is a role requiring daily interactions with sales staff, customers, auditors, state & local governments, and federal agencies. Excellent managerial, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills are needed to succeed in this position.
Additional Qualifications
- A degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is preferred;
- Minimum 10 years' experience in Transaction taxes with an emphasis on Sales, Use, Privilege (U.S.) and PST, HST and GST (Canada) required;
- Master’s degree in Tax a plus.;
- Working knowledge of resale/exemption certificates is required; with an emphasis for Contractors
- Prior experience with Block and computer assisted sampling is a plus;
- Experience with international cross border transaction is a plus;
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word) and Outlook
