Summary of role

 

Working within the Commercial Bid Department, the role of the Commercial Buyer is to aid the development of New Business opportunities by successfully sourcing products from a Customer’s bill of materials.

 

They will utilise existing suppliers and identify potential new suppliers, implementing the material sourcing and supplier procurement strategy for new projects, ensuring that sourcing decisions, commercial terms and supplier capabilities meet company requirements and conform to company procedures and goals.

 

 

Main responsibilities/Key goals

 

·         Conduct research to identify the best available products and suppliers

·         Select suppliers that meet technical, quality and commercial requirements, ensuring selection conforms to the company's purchasing strategy

·         Invite prospective suppliers to bid, ensuring that all customer requirements are effectively communicated

·         Analyse supplier offers to ensure their viability and to identify any potential risks

·         Liaise with suppliers to maintain strong relationships to ensure that they are providing the best possible levels of support

·         Initiate and coordinate supplier visits where appropriate

·         Maintain an accurate and up to date supplier database for Commercial projects

·         Drive automation and simplification within our processes

·         Accept direct responsibility for the completion of projects in line with agreed priorities and deadlines

 

Special conditions (e.g. frequent travel, early starts and late finishes)

 

·         Flexible schedule when projects are to be completed under deadlines

·         Ability to travel when required to do so

 

 

Tools and equipment used

 

·         Microsoft Packages (Excel and Access)

·         Company Global Mainframe

 

 

 

Qualifications/education required

 

·         Educated to A level or equivalent

·         Proven experience of sourcing within an industrial consumables environment

·         Experience of working in a demanding and fast-paced distribution environment handling high volumes of parts

 

Necessary skills, knowledge and experience

 

·         Technical knowledge in the field of industrial consumable products (for example, Abrasives, Adhesives, Cable, Electrical Consumables, Fasteners, Tooling)

·         Excellent negotiation and communication skills at all levels

·         Sound commercial and business acumen

·         Fluent in English but spoken and written languages other than English would be advantageous

·         Articulate, numerate, with an ability to think logically

·         Good all-round IT skills with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Excel

·         Strong analytical skills demonstrable both orally and in written work.

·         Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.

·         The ability to work unsupervised

·         A self-starter but a good team player who appreciates that team success is the key goal

·         An ability to handle working pressure and stay focused

·         The ability to make decisions under pressure

·         The personal credibility to develop and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally
