Position Profile

The Category Specialist will work closely with the Category Managers on implementing product line tactics, execute reporting and analysis tasks to identify opportunities for improvement, assisting with cost and bid analysis and updating internal and external product information. The successful Category Specialist candidate will be a self-starter, inquisitive, and detailed oriented. This role will report to the Director of Category Management within the Electrical and Electronic Solutions (EES) division.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively evaluate large sets of data, identify trends, proactively solicit feedback from others and recommend solutions while understanding business impact.
  • Taking direction from the Category Manager on standard cost strategy to maintain costs by product group, categories, geographies, individual part number, etc.
  • Review / Update the Daily Non-Stock report and assign correct product class categories.
  • Analyze repeat non-stock orders and recommend creation & stocking of new part numbers.
  • Create/Update/Withdraw existing part numbers within the Anixter system.
  • Take guidance from the Category Manager on their products, develop an e-commerce pricing strategy and execute that with the digital team.
  • Help manage tactical relationship with key suppliers.
  • Identify product / process cost improvement opportunities.
  • Assist the Product Manager in development of marketing collateral.
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of product information, including product specifications, product images and additional product content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales, marketing or similar roles
  • Previous experience in the electrical distribution market is a plus
  • Must be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and detail oriented
  • Team First mentality with a positive / can-do attitude
  • Strong Analytical and commercial skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication / presentation skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Good PC skills including office applications such as Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
